The message “girl power” is now a constant inMaria Grazia Chiuri’s collection , and also this time in the Dior Cruise 2019 fashion show brought femininity to the stage. This collection was inspired by the creative director were the Mexican women so called “escaramuzas” who were the first women to claim the right to participate in the “charreada” in 1953, or the classic rodeo that before then was reserved exclusively for men. The show was opened by them on white thoroughbreds, wearing Dior clothes and they continued to animate the evening while the models paraded on the catwalk in the pouring rain.
Chiuri has cleverly managed to reinterpret the typical clothes that these women wear during the traditional rodeo in which they can easily compete in dresses with flounces, lace and sombrero. The eighty-two dresses that have paraded on the catwalk make the sinuous bodies and were composed of wide skirts, long to the ankle, from the corolla line composed of meters and yards of tulle paired with bodices or shirt and tie, and to complete the outfits we see belts of leather tied at the waist, wide-brimmed hats and rubber boots, a collection where femininity and masculinity blend, past and contemporary.
The protagonist of this collection is the lace, in particular, the Chantilly lace very dear to the master Christian Dior. Some Jackets, skirts and dresses are enriched with Toile de Jouy with a modification however, instead of classic French panoramas have been inserted drawings of ferocious animals, or decorated with enchanting floral motifs. The colors chosen are as always in perfect Dior style, with soft but elegant tones such as white and black that dominate the evening with the addition of shades such as burgundy, military green and beige.
