Progressive aesthetic, looking the future with the knowledge of tradition. The Santoni f/w 17/18 collection defines a new urban grammar, faithful to highly artisanal DNA of the brand yet immersed in the urban setting. Shapes are bold, with geometric cuts and massive soles. The taste for precious materials and the painstaking attention to detail are the unifying element.
Acknowledging the ever-changing multiplicity of metropolitan life, the collection is a mix of stories ranging from re-though formality to sportswear, breaking up and mixing up categories and functions. Even hiking boots, in this frame, turn into an accumulation of precious skins, while the iconic Clean sneaker is presented in a fur-lined version. Polished toes characterize the sturdy lace-ups, while asymmetric color effects and bold fringes land an off-kilter allure to derbies. Formal, tapered styles are defined by prismatic cuts; massive soles give double monkstrap styles an air of absolute lightness. Laces disappear. Elastic inserts are both decorative and functional. The morphing of categories is evident in the new sneaker, Dip, which combines elegance and performance, formality and informality.
The color palette is dense and masculine: black, brown, burgundy, deep blue with touches of caramel. Materials are precious: brushed calfskin, crocodile, patent leather, aged calfskin with glossy finishes.
This season, once again, Santoni presents the collection with an immersive installation – developed from an idea by Angelo Flaccavento – announced by the invitation which is the poster – drawn by Antonio Pippolini – for an imaginary theater piece titled I am everybody. Visitors will be welcomed in the Teatrino Santoni, walking a stage crowded with hidden characters whose only visible clue are the shoes. The idea is provocative: in a time when the style is blatant exhibition, the choice to go incognito is actually the most elegant, but also the most theatrical.
